About Us

Sheila Vernick was ordained in April, 2005, by the Church of Spiritual Humanism. She has worked with people of diverse religious backgrounds, and with some people who do not espouse particular religious beliefs. She has developed a keen interest in assisting people with the occasions that arise in their lives, so that she has actively pursued another branch of a career wherein her work with people is critical.

Sheila is a graduate of Wheaton College (Massachusetts), with a master’s degree from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Florida, Gainesville. Dr. Vernick has elected the title of Chaplain rather than Reverend, in her efforts to be available both to people who are seeking an officiant for their ceremony, and to those who are not necessarily marking an occasion, but who would like to consult around life issues. She is authorized by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to perform rites of marriage, baby naming, hand fasting (informal betrothal) and commitment ceremonies, in addition to funerals and memorial services.

Custom Ceremonials is your resource for your Life Event, allowing you to select which elements belong in your ceremony.
